Literacy: Focus Standards:
We will be using Daily 5 in the classroom paired with the Expeditionary Learning curriculum. This workshop model includes read to self, read to someone, listen to reading, work on writing, and word work. The rotations help improve fluency, writing skills, and increase complex vocabulary. These rotations are done while the teacher provides small group instruction, guided reading, and conferencing with individual goal setting to best meet the needs of your children.
There are plenty of resources for your child to use for more practice, such as reading a book on their level nightly, Common Core Sheets, Readworks, Newsela, Frontrowed, IXL, and their classroom journal.
Math: Focus Standards:
There are plenty of resources for your child to use as more practice. We will be using Math Daily 3 in the classroom paired with the Engage New York curriculum. This workshop model includes math with writing (students will be asked to explain their thinking, create word problems, solve word problems, and teach to other students), math with a partner (typically given a project to complete on the unit as well as some mathematical games), and math with self (a time for your child to further his/her knowledge and skills through an abundance of resources).
Interactive journals will be kept in class to contain notes, practice problems, and formative assessments. This will be your child's best resource! Using his or her interactive journal will be a great way to support your child's learning and understanding of these concepts!
There are plenty of resources for your child to use for more practice, such as commoncoresheets.com, Frontrowed, IXL, and their classroom journal.
